Digital revolution in food management

The increasing human population necessitates more sustainable food management practices to conserve resources for future generations. Novel approaches leverage the power of modern technologies to improve sustainability in the food system.
Digital systems use technologies like blockchain to track the journey of food products from their manufacturer to the consumer. These systems record information such as production details, transportation routes, and storage conditions to ensure food safety.
The rise of food delivery apps and meal-planning platforms has transformed the way consumers interact with food. Many modern food delivery apps provide order tracking features allowing customers to monitor the status and location of their meals in real time. This way follows the most efficient routes, reducing delivery times and operational costs. These food delivery apps record each user’s order history which allows one to understand customer preferences including their favorite dishes, preferred cuisines, and ordering frequency.
Intelligent packaging is another novel method that emerges with the development of technology. It is a packaging technology that incorporates sensors, and indicators to monitor food quality. This can avoid unnecessary food waste by providing objective information to consumers about the quality of food.
Digital tools using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are used to improve the storage of foods. Standalone fridge cameras can be fitted in regular fridges and be programmed to send images to smartphones through an internet connection. This allows the consumer to know what is stored in the fridge even when away from home, enabling better planning of food shopping.
Digitalization in food management offers numerous benefits and opportunities for improving efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. By leveraging technologies such as (Artificial Intelligence) AI, IoT, and data analytics businesses can reduce waste, enhance food safety, and personalize customer experiences.
